My Lord,

I beg most respectfully to ask that the Pension of 19/6d per week, which I am presently receiving from the Colonial Office,he increased and I bring before you the following facts in support of by request:-

My husband, John Mcwen, Overseer in the Public Works Depart: ment, Hong Kong, died there in 1912, I was left with two young children who are now 10 and 8 years old respectively, and received a Widow's and Orphans' Pension of 19/6d per week. As it was necessary for me to supplement this pension, I was engaged as a Government Nurse in the Government Civil Hospital,Hong Kong, up till July 1919, when I returned to this country in charge of a lunatic civil patient. It was my intention to carry on my profession of nursing in this country, but owing to the large number of nurses now being demobilized, I am unable to find employment.

In these circumstances and in view of the increased cost of living I respectfully request your Lordship's favourable consider: :ation of my case and I would be grateful if my pension could be increased to Two Pounds per week.
